Olivia Dress

I made this Olivia dress for a friends daughter, who came to school (year 1) today.

I wish you all the best for your school career, dear K.!

The school year at the German International School Sydney for year 1 started today.

In Germany it is tradition  that the kids get a "sugar cone" and that there is a special celebration for their first day of school, as Preschool and Kindergarten are not part of school.

The "sugar cones" are usually filled with little presents, like crayons, a plushie, a watch and lollies.

The dress is made from very soft velour from here.

Half Metre Imke Jacket

I had only half a metre from the turquoise fleece that I treasured for more than 3 years now and I thought that I urgent need to do something with it before it never will be enough for something for Miss K. And then I had these half metre of cherry red Stella, which is more a dark pink and Miss K actually doesn't liked but it matches perfectly with the embroidery on the fleece.
I laid different patterns on the fleece and decided for Imke in 122/128 but without seam allowance and you see it is a bit small :-( but Miss K don't allow to give it away...

Ich hatte leider nur einen halben Meter von diesem Fleece, den ich nun schon seit ueber drei Jahren huete und es wurde dringed Zeit, dass ich was daraus fuer Miss K naehe, bevor das Stueck fuer gar nichts mehr ausreicht. Und dann hatte ich da noch diesen halben Meter kirschroten Jersey, der mehr dunkelpink ist und Miss K eigentlich nicht recht gefiel, aber er passte perfekt zu der Stickerei auf dem Fleece.

Ich habe verschiedene Schnittmuster auf den Fleece gelegt und gepasst hat einigermassen Imke, aber nur ohne Nahtzugaben und wie man sieht, ist's schon etwas knapp :-(, aber Miss K will die Jacke auch nicht hergeben...

 The body and hood are fully lined with jersey, but I couldn't topstitch it because it got all bumpy because I needed to cut some pattern pieces contrary to the grain line.

Das Vorder- und Rueckenteil sowie die Kaputze sind mit Jersey gefuettert, aber ich konnte es leider nicht absteppen, da es alles wellig wurde, da ich wegen der Stoffknappheit entgegen des Fadenlaufs zuschneiden musste.

Long I haven't done an applique, but now a butterfly with curly ribbon was ordered and for that I even cut in one of my Oilily treasures...

Lange schon habe ich keine Applikation mehr gemacht, aber nun war ein Schmetterling mit Korkenzieherbaendern gewuenscht und dafuer habe ich sogar eines meiner Oilily-Schaetzchen angeschnitten...

Holiday Time - Reading Time

I'm not needled to death, I'm still here ;-)

Not much happens here at the moment. 

The last one and a half week of winter holidays is starting today. 

I finished a thrilling book. I am not a knitter at all, but as it is a crime story I loved it:

I am off to find if they have other books from this series in my local library.

Ich bin noch da und nicht zu tode genadelt ;-)

Wir haben noch anderthalb Wochen Winterferien, aber viel passiert hier nicht.

Aber ich hab ein spannendes Buch gelesen. Ich kann zwar nicht stricken, aber es ist ein Krimi und an denen komme ich immer schwer vorbei. Keine Ahnung, ob es das auch in Deutsch gibt.

Ich schau dann mal in der Bibliothek, ob sie noch mehr von der Serie haben.

Nun mag ich meinen neuen Pulli doch.

After I abandoned it I now felt that I need something snuggly and as I was pretty happy with the neckline from Mareena I cut the old one and made a new binding.

That's how it was before:

Nachdem ich ihn ja in die Ecke gefeuert hatte, wollte ich nun doch wieder was kuscheliges haben und da ich ja mit dem Ausschnitt meiner Mareenas recht zufrieden bin, habe ich das alte Buendchen einfach abgeschnitten bzw. rausgetrennt und ein neues gemacht.

Das Shirt ist auch super weichem Nicki und ich hoffe, dass bald wieder welchen bei den Crafty Mamas geben wird. Lisa hat so etwas im Forum schon angedeutet.

upcycled Imke at Watsons Bay

As the weather was pretty nice yesterday we headed to Watsons Bay for a little historic walk around South Head.
Da das Wetter gestern so schoen war, sind wir mal nach Watsons Bay gefahren und haben einen Spaziergang mit historischen Sehenswuerdigkeiten gemacht.

 Miss K wore an upcycled top from me as it seems I grew as well. Some of my tops are getting shorter and shorter. I used the Imke pattern from the SCKL book.
Es scheint, ich wachse auch noch. Einige Shirts von mir werden immer kuerzer, so habe ich aus dieses  fuer Miss K angepasst. Ich habe den Imke Schnitt aus dem SCKL Buch benutzt.

Some days ago

Vor ein paar Tagen bekam ich ein paar ganz spezielle Kuesse

... on my special day.

Not only from this bottle nose dolphin but also from a seal and not to forget my loved ones :-)

... an meinem runden Geburtstag.

Nicht nur von diesem Bottlenose-Delphin sondern auch noch von einer Robbe und natuerlich nicht zu vergessen meinen Lieben :-)

We went for a couple of days to Coffs Harbour.

Wir sind fuer ein paar Tage nach Coffs Harbour gefahren.

But we didn't see the dolphins not only in the Pet Porpoise Pool, NO we saw one in the ocean and a whale as well,  strolling along Muttonbirds Island.

Aber wir haben Delphine nicht nur im Pet Porpoise Pool gesehen, NEIN wir haben einen sogar im Ozean gesehen und auch einen Wal als wir auf einer vorgelagerten Halbinsel entlangspaziert sind.

Hubby managed to get a photo of the blow. Can you spot it?

Unfortunately the weather was not the nicest, but I got lots of rainbows as a special birthday present that day.

Mein Maenne konnte sogar ein Foto schiessen als der Wal gerade ausblaest. Koennt ihr es erkennen?

Leider war das Wetter nicht so der Bringer, dafuer habe ich ganz viele Regenbogen als Geburtstagsgeschenk bekommen.

When we arrived yesterday I found a letter from my Mum with some fabric in it. It made me smile - that fabric is so my mum - she loves butterflies and that are her colours. I had the spontaneous idea to make something for her as she has birthday in a couple of days. 

 Als wir dann gestern wieder nach Hause kamen, wartete schon ein Brief von meiner Mum auf mich und sie hat mir doch tatsaechlich Stoff geschickt. Da musste ich lachen, der Stoff passt so gut zu ihr - sie liebt Schmetterlinge und das sind eigentlich genau ihre Farben. Da hatte ich ganz spontan die Idee etwas fuer sie daraus zu machen, wo sie doch auch in ein paar Tagen Geburtstag hat.

 Probably she will be surprised that she gets her fabric back.

Da wird sie sich sicherlich etwas wundern, dass sie ihren Stoff wieder zurueckbekommt.

The fabric pieces were just enough to make the bag, the pocket on the inside and also the plain purple corduroy are from my stash. Hope it will arrive in time and in good condition in Germany.
Die beiden Stoffstuecke waren geradeso ausreichend um den Beutel zu machen, die Innentasche und der lila Kord sind schon aus meinem Vorrat. Nun hoffe ich, dass es noch rechtzeitig und heil bei ihr ankommen wird.
